JAMMU, Feb 18: The 18th UT J&K Wushu Championship wrapped up with great fanfare at the Indoor Hall in Bhagwati Nagar, Jammu. Over the course of four days, 1200 Wushu athletes from 19 districts, six Khelo India centers, and the Jammu and Kashmir Police showcased their skills in a competitive environment. District Jammu emerged as the overall champion, while District Srinagar took the runner-up title. The Khelo India Centre (KIC) Jammu finished in third place.
The closing ceremony was attended by Minister for Youth Services and Sports (YSS) Satish Sharma, who served as the chief guest. He praised the Wushu Association of J&K for its dedication to promoting the sport and creating opportunities for emerging Wushu talent in the region. He pointed out that Wushu has become a highly celebrated sport in J&K.
The Minister reiterated the Government’s commitment to transform J&K into a sports hub and stressed the crucial role of sports in engaging youth while promoting both physical and mental well-being. He encouraged parents to support their children in pursuing sports. Kuldeep Handoo provided an overview of the accomplishments of Wushu athletes from the region and the backing received from the J&K Sports Council.
Among the dignitaries present were Rajeev Sharma (Member of the Sports Council), Sadat Aslam Wani (Vice President of the Wushu Association of J&K), Ritika Singh (Manager, Indoor), Maqsood Rather (Joint Secretary, Wushu Association), Kamal Kishore (Organizing Secretary), as well as Ajay Paul Gill, Nissar Ahmed Mir, Atul Sharma, and Ajaz Hassan. Bhavneet, General Secretary of the Wushu Association of J&K, delivered the vote of thanks.
