Banihal/Jammu, Feb 28: The Jammu and Kashmir Police has confiscated approximately 2.9 acres of land owned by five associates of the banned terrorist organization Hizbul Mujahideen under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in the Gool region of Ramban district, an official spokesperson stated on Friday.
The five militants — Saraj Din (48) from Sangaldan, Reyaz Ahmed (45) from Dalwah, Farooq Ahmed (46) from Banj Bhimdassa, and Mohd Ashraf (50) and Mushtaq Ahmed (47) from Moila — have migrated to Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) and are conducting their operations from there, he explained.
They were attempting to sell these properties to finance their militant operations, the spokesperson mentioned.
“The confiscation of immovable assets belonging to these five exfiltrated terrorists from the Gool area marks a significant step in dismantling networks that finance terrorism and thwarting the resurgence of militancy in the region.
“This action sends a strong message to terrorists operating from PoK that their efforts to rekindle terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir will not be tolerated,” he added.
The seized immovable properties include agricultural land measuring 15-kanal and 17-marla registered in Reyaz Ahmed’s name valued at Rs 43 lakh, land measuring 1 kanal and 3-marla in Din’s name valued at Rs 6.34 lakh, land measuring 1 kanal and 11-marla owned by Ashraf valued at Rs 8.67 lakh, land measuring 3-kanal and 4-marla registered in Mushtaq’s name valued at Rs 17.90 lakh, and land measuring 1 kanal and 18-marla in Farooq’s name valued at Rs 3.75 lakh.
The spokesperson emphasized that security forces are dedicated to ensuring prolonged peace, stability, and development in Jammu and Kashmir while taking strict measures against those trying to disrupt the region.
According to police sources, the five terrorists crossed over to PoJK to receive arms training and engage in militant activities within India.
Intelligence reports indicated that they were attempting to liquidate their immovable assets in Jammu and Kashmir to utilize the proceeds for financing terrorist activities and enticing local youth into militancy, stated the spokesperson.
The seizure order, issued by the sub-divisional police officer in Gool, prohibits the sale, lease, or any other type of transaction involving these properties without the consent of the J-K Police or other designated authorities, he noted.
This seizure will eliminate a potential source of terror funding that could have been utilized to reinstate Hizbul Mujahideen’s presence in the area, he added.
Police also stated that the families of the five terrorists will now encounter legal and financial challenges, preventing them from indirectly supporting militant activities.
The Jammu and Kashmir administration has actively been targeting terror financing, overground worker (OGW) networks, and exfiltrated terrorists, significantly weakening the terror infrastructure in recent years, the spokesperson remarked.
This latest action aligns with the government’s zero-tolerance stance toward terrorism, he concluded.
