The engineers—Muhammad Noordin, Zaffar Ahmed, and Muhammad Saleem—were reported absent from their assigned duties, where their presence was crucial for effective snow removal and assistance to affected residents.
An inquiry revealed that Noordin was located in Chadoora, Zaffar Ahmed in Janglatmandi Anantnag, and Saleem in Srinagar, significantly distanced from their required snow clearance areas.
The DDC Shopian expressed disappointment regarding their unauthorized leave at a time when the district was actively addressing the severe impacts of heavy snowfall.
“The behavior exhibited by the AEEs is unprofessional and represents a profound neglect of their responsibilities, especially during a critical period when the whole administrative apparatus of Shopian is engaged in snow clearance and offering help to the public,” stated an order from the DDC Shopian.
As a result, the DDC has suspended the engineers and assigned them to the 24×7 Control Room in Shopian until a thorough investigation, led by the Additional District Development Commissioner, is completed.
“The suspended engineers are required to report to the control room immediately. No salary will be issued to them by the respective DDOs until the inquiry concludes and any necessary departmental actions are taken,” the order further specified.
