SRINAGAR, Feb 27: The 4th J&K UT Level Carrom Championship 2024-25 kicked off today at the Sher-i-Kashmir Indoor Sports Complex in Srinagar, officially inaugurated by Adil Rashid Shah, President of the Jammu and Kashmir Carrom Association, along with Maqsood Khan, Manager of SKISC. This two-day event, organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Carrom Association in partnership with the J&K Sports Council under the “My Youth My Pride” initiative, is being hosted by the District Srinagar Carrom Association.
The opening ceremony was attended by several notable figures, including Arif Sultan (Treasurer, J&K Carrom Association), Dawar Rashid (Assistant General Secretary), and other officials. The association conveyed its heartfelt thanks to the J&K Sports Council, particularly Nuzhat Gull, the Secretary of the Sports Council, for her unwavering support in advancing sports in the region.
The championship has attracted enthusiastic participation, with around 120 players representing different districts of Jammu and Kashmir competing in various categories. Day 1 of the event showcased thrilling matches across all categories.
Results from Day 1 are as follows; Cadet Boys: Hasan Adil (Srinagar) triumphed over Saqib Parvaiz (Kulgam), Orhan Bilal (Pulwama) won against Ilhan Irshad (Kulgam), and Aman Farooq (Shopian) defeated Firas Irshad (Kulgam).
In the Cadet Girls category: Lesha Hareem (Pulwama) overcame Khairun Nisa (Baramulla), Mahira Shafi (Baramulla) defeated Fatima Khalid (Kulgam), and Aisha Binti Ishaq (Kulgam) won against Maliha Maqsood (Srinagar).
For Sub-Junior Boys: Ahmad Eazaan (Baramulla) beat Aatif Aijaz (Kupwara), and Mir Riyan Farooq (Kupwara) won against Aman Farooq (Shopian). In Sub-Junior Girls: Dua Jan (Srinagar) defeated Aisha Aijaz (Kishtwar), Syeda Adil (Srinagar) overcame Mir Aqsa (Kupwara), and Ishra Javid (Budgam) defeated Mahi Mohiddin (Anantnag).
Junior Boys results include: Hasan Adil (Srinagar) defeating Adnan Gulzar (Srinagar), Momin Mehraj (Srinagar) besting Faiz Sofi (Srinagar), Mohammad Aiyan Shalla (Srinagar) overcoming Ahsan ul Haq (Srinagar), and Zaid Bin Ajaz defeating Umar Jan (Budgam).
In the Junior Girls category: Syeda Adil (Srinagar) won against Rutba (Kupwara), Maheen Rahiyan (Srinagar) secured a victory via walkover against Simran Kour (Jammu), and Fatima Jan (Srinagar) also won against Muskan (Jammu) via walkover.
Senior Men saw Furqan Nazir (Srinagar) defeating Aakash (Srinagar), Shahid (Srinagar) overcoming Adil Mohammad (Srinagar), and Saleem Ahmad (Srinagar) winning against Adnan Ahmad (Pulwama).
In Senior Women, Minha Arjumand (Srinagar) defeated Saniya Tabusum (Baramulla), Mehandi Mehraj (Srinagar) won against Safiya Sajad (Baramulla), and Asra (Srinagar) triumphed over Shazia (Srinagar).
The final matches are set to take place tomorrow, followed by a prize distribution ceremony to honor the winners. The champions and runners-up will earn the chance to represent Jammu and Kashmir at the 52nd Senior National Carrom Championship 2024-25 in New Delhi, scheduled from March 17 to 21. The Jammu and Kashmir Carrom Association is dedicated to fostering Carrom talent in the UT and encouraging youth participation in competitive sports.
