KARGIL, Jan 16: The 4th installment of the LG Cup Ice Hockey Championship 2024-25 was officially launched today at the Ice Hockey Rink, Khree Sultan Choo Sports Stadium, Biamathang, Kargil. The inauguration, led by Executive Councillor for Revenue, LAHDC, Kargil, Kacho Mohd Feroz, attracted a significant number of ice hockey fans.
The championship will run until January 20, starting with the first match between the LSRC Army Team and the Royal Chiktan. Dignitaries in attendance included Executive Councillor for Zanskar Affairs, Er. Punchok Tashi; Deputy Commissioner/CEO of LAHDC, Kargil, Shrikant Balasaheb Suse; Joint Director of Youth Services and Sports, Ladakh, Tahir Hussain Zubadavi; among other district officials.
Executive Councillor Feroz emphasized the significance of the championship, pointing out that the participation of teams from both Leh and Kargil fosters sportsmanship, enhances physical health, and encourages cultural exchange. He assured attendees of full support from LAHDC Kargil towards promoting ice hockey, which also plays a role in boosting tourism in the region.
The Joint Director of Youth Services and Sports mentioned that this year’s championship includes four boys’ teams from both Leh and Kargil, in addition to two girls’ teams. He also shared that the administration is actively working on the development of additional ice hockey rinks throughout Kargil to further enhance the sport.
