Srinagar, January 7: Authorities have apprehended five suspected drug dealers, including a married couple, in different locations around the city over the past few days, officials reported on Tuesday.
An auto-rickshaw driver, Waseem Sheikh, along with his spouse Uzma Waseem, were arrested after a significant amount of drugs was discovered in their vehicle at Zaldagar in Srinagar, according to a police spokesperson.
“Through the investigation directed by the Maharaj Ganj SHO, it was revealed that the couple utilized their rickshaw and family guise to mislead law enforcement while distributing narcotics among youth,” he explained.
A case has been filed under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, and further inquiries are underway.
The spokesperson added that another suspected drug dealer, Waseem Bafanda, was detained on Friday after narcotics were found on him at a checkpoint in the Sazgaripora area of Zadibal.
“During the subsequent investigation, two additional suspects, identified as Waqar Ahmad Duloo alias Koter and Mohammad Rafiq Pattoo, were also arrested, with a considerable quantity of illegal substances seized from them,” he stated.
