ISLAMABAD, Feb 14: At least nine individuals lost their lives and seven others were wounded when a roadside bomb targeted a vehicle transporting coal miners in the troubled Balochistan province of Pakistan on Friday, officials reported.
The explosion occurred on a mini truck in the Shahrag region of the Harnai district, as per Harnai Deputy Commissioner Hazrat Wali Kakar’s statement.
The nine victims died instantly.
According to authorities, the deceased worked in the coal mines and were taken to a nearby medical facility.
Police indicated that preliminary reports suggested the explosion was triggered by an Improvised Explosive Device, which had been placed along the roadside.
Law enforcement officials swiftly arrived at the scene and initiated a manhunt to capture those responsible.
Balochistan government spokesperson Shahid Rand expressed sorrow over the unfortunate incident, confirming that an investigation is underway.
No group has claimed responsibility for the assault as of now, although previous incidents have been attributed to the banned Baloch Liberation Army. (Agencies)
