NEW DELHI, Jan 24: On Friday, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) accused the BJP-led Central government and the Delhi Police of allegedly plotting to “murder” its leader Arvind Kejriwal. They urged the Election Commission to reinstate Kejriwal’s security detail that was previously provided by the Punjab Police but has since been removed.
The BJP and Delhi Police have yet to respond to these serious allegations.
During a press conference, Delhi Chief Minister Atishi and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann announced that they have formally requested the Election Commission to ensure a level playing field for AAP in the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections on February 5. They also demanded a restoration of Kejriwal’s security and a thorough investigation into recent threats to his life.
The AAP leaders accused the Delhi Police, operating under central government direction, of ignoring reported assaults on Kejriwal, allegedly in line with orders from Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
“There are two main entities conspiring against Kejriwalji: the BJP and the Delhi Police, both of which are working together to jeopardize his life. There have been several attempts on his life, including a reported attack last October that we traced back to individuals affiliated with the BJP, yet the police failed to act,” Atishi asserted.
“We have reached out to the Election Commission to demand the restoration of Kejriwal’s security. We do not trust the Delhi Police since it is under Amit Shah’s influence,” she concluded.
According to AAP leaders, the BJP is engaging in “dirty politics” in the lead-up to the elections by orchestrating the removal of Kejriwal’s security detail. (Agencies)
