NEW DELHI, Jan 24: State-owned Coal India Ltd announced on Friday that Achyut Ghatak has assumed the role of Director (Technical).
Ghatak takes over from B Veera Reddy, who retired in August of the previous year after reaching the age of superannuation.
During the interim period, Coal India Ltd (CIL) Chairman P M Prasad managed the additional responsibilities, the maharatna company stated.
Before his appointment as Director, Ghatak worked with the Central Mine Planning and Design Institute in Ranchi, which is a consultancy branch of CIL. He has also served as General Manager for Project Monitoring and Corporate Planning at CIL’s corporate headquarters.
“Increasing coal production, adopting cutting-edge technologies, and enhancing the coal transportation infrastructure, particularly through eco-friendly first mile connectivity projects, along with boosting R&D initiatives will be our key focus areas,” Ghatak remarked.
Ghatak brings nearly two decades of experience in mechanized underground mining. He played a significant role in developing and implementing CIL’s underground vision plan and in creating a roadmap aimed at achieving one billion tonnes of coal production.
His career began in 1989 as a Junior Executive Trainee at Western Coalfields Ltd, the coal-producing subsidiary of CIL. (PTI)
