HYDERABAD, Dec 25: Actor Allu Arjun, along with the producers of the film ‘Pushpa’, declared a financial support of Rs 2 crore for the family of a woman who tragically lost her life in a stampede during the film’s screening at a Hyderabad theatre on December 4.
In the meantime, Dil Raju, chairman of the Telangana State Film Development Corporation (FDC) and renowned producer, announced that a group of film personalities will meet Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Thursday to enhance cooperation between the government and the film industry.
Allu Arjun’s father, veteran producer Allu Aravind, visited a private hospital where a boy injured in the stampede is being treated, accompanied by Dil Raju and others.
Following talks with the doctors, Allu Aravind was relieved to learn that the boy is recovering and can now breathe independently. The medical staff remains positive about his prognosis.
To support the boy’s family, Allu Arjun contributed Rs 1 crore, while Mytri Movie Makers, the production company behind ‘Pushpa’, contributed Rs 50 lakh, and director Sukumar also donated Rs 50 lakh.
Aravind presented the cheques to Dil Raju, requesting him to pass them on to the boy’s family due to legal restrictions that hinder direct communication without prior approval.
Amidst rumors of a rift between the Congress government and the film industry following Allu Arjun’s involvement in the stampede case, Dil Raju mentioned that film personalities, including Allu Aravind, would meet the CM at 10 am on Thursday.
This meeting, organized by the FDC, aims to bridge relations between the government and the film community.
Some leaders within the ruling Congress party have criticized Allu Arjun’s remarks from last week that claimed the stampede incident was merely accidental, disputing CM Revanth Reddy’s allegations regarding a “roadshow” preceding the film screening.
Just hours after Reddy criticized the actor for waving to the audience, the ‘Pushpa 2’ star denied the accusations, clarifying that it was neither a procession nor a roadshow.
The tragic event occurred at the Sandhya Theatre in Hyderabad, where a 35-year-old woman died during the stampede while attending the screening of ‘Pushpa 2’; her eight-year-old son was hospitalized after the incident.
Following this tragedy, a case was filed against Allu Arjun, his security team, and the theatre management under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the Chikkadpally police station, as per a complaint lodged by the victim’s family.
Allu Arjun was apprehended by city police in connection with the woman’s death on December 13.
He was granted a four-week interim bail by the Telangana High Court the same day and was subsequently released from prison on the morning of December 14. (PTI)
