NEW DELHI, Feb 17: The Adani Group announced a donation of ₹2,000 crore for the establishment of at least 20 schools across India, as part of its ongoing commitment of ₹10,000 crore in charitable contributions made during the wedding of Gautam Adani’s younger son.
Previously, the conglomerate had pledged ₹6,000 crore for hospital construction and an additional ₹2,000 crore for skill development initiatives.
The Adani Foundation, which is the philanthropic arm of the group led by Gautam Adani, has partnered with GEMS Education, a renowned global leader in private K-12 education, to create centers of learning throughout the country.
As part of the collaboration, which begins with an initial donation of ₹2,000 crore from the Adani family, the goal is to provide affordable world-class educational and learning infrastructures to individuals from all socioeconomic backgrounds, according to a recent statement.
Earlier this month, Adani committed to investing ₹10,000 crore for social initiatives as part of the joyous occasion when his son Jeet was married.
This partnership with GEMS Education aims to establish premier research institutions dedicated to enhancing teaching capabilities, supported by innovation and skill development. The first ‘Adani GEMS School of Excellence’ is set to open in Lucknow for the academic year 2025-26.
“Within the next three years, we plan to launch at least 20 schools in the K-12 system across major metropolitan areas and, subsequently, in Tier II to IV cities,” the statement outlined.
These schools will reserve 30% of CBSE curriculum seats for underprivileged and deserving children.
By leveraging the extensive reach and resources of the Adani Group combined with GEMS Education’s expertise, this partnership aims to create a scalable, affordable, and sustainable education model for students throughout India.
“This initiative underscores our dedication to making high-quality education both affordable and accessible on a broad scale,” said Gautam Adani, Chairman of the Adani Group. “Through our collaboration with GEMS Education, we plan to integrate global best practices and innovative digital learning to empower the next generation of socially responsible leaders in India.”
“Our mission has always been about making quality education accessible to every student, regardless of their economic background,” stated Sunny Varkey, Founder & Chairman of GEMS Education. “Partnering with the Adani Foundation enhances our capacity to reach and impact diverse communities throughout India, sharing our global educational expertise with learners and educators alike.”
The collaboration emphasizes that advancing the nation requires a focused and dedicated approach to empower its youth, and this partnership aims to cultivate a highly skilled and values-driven talent pool.
Adani-GEMS institutions will merge a global curriculum with the best elements of Indian educational boards.
Since its inception in 1996, the Adani Foundation has proactively engaged in strategic social investments aimed at achieving sustainable outcomes across India, enhancing the lives of children, women, youth, and marginalized communities through initiatives in education, health, nutrition, sustainable livelihoods, climate action, and community development.
The Adani Foundation currently operates in 6,769 villages across 19 states. (PTI)
