- Chief Minister chairs review meeting with MLAs and DCs to evaluate recovery of essential services
- Cross-party MLAs commend CM’s administration for its prompt action
SRINAGAR, Dec 29: Following the recent heavy snowfall, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah conducted a detailed meeting on Sunday via video conference with Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) and Deputy Commissioners (DCs) from the Kashmir Division. The meeting took place at the Raabita Public Outreach Office, focused on assessing ongoing restoration efforts and evaluating the status of essential services such as snow clearance, power, water supply, and health facilities.
During the discussion, MLAs from various parties acknowledged the swift actions of the CM-led administration in response to the snowfall, highlighting the government’s commitment during challenging weather conditions.
Minister Javaid Ahmad Dar participated as a legislator, with Advisor to the Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Wani and other senior officials also attending.
The Chief Minister began by seeking insights from MLAs about restoration efforts in their constituencies. Key topics included snow clearance operations, restoration of power and water supplies, and delivery of other essential services.
One-on-one discussions were also held between the Chief Minister and Deputy Commissioners from snow-affected areas in the Jammu Division, who provided updates on the current state and actions taken to restore normalcy in harsh weather.
Throughout the meeting, CM Omar Abdullah urged officers to be attentive and responsive to public concerns, directing them to identify service delivery gaps and implement immediate corrective measures. He stressed the importance of alleviating the hardships faced by the public and commended the dedication of Divisional Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners, and their teams working tirelessly under difficult conditions.
Looking ahead, the Chief Minister called for improved preparedness ahead of the anticipated snowfall next week, instructing officials to refine action plans based on recent experiences.
He emphasized prioritizing snow clearance on link roads, inner lanes, and bylanes to ensure residents have access. Additionally, he directed the Jal Shakti Department (PHE) to promptly address any water supply issues and increase water tanker deployment in affected areas.
CM Omar Abdullah also instructed the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) and related departments to take proactive measures to prevent waterlogging in low-lying regions. He underscored the need for smooth traffic flow on the National Highway, urging better coordination among the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Traffic Police, and District Administrations.
The Chief Minister highlighted the significance of ongoing monitoring and collaboration between various departments to avoid public inconvenience.
The meeting featured participation from Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister Dheeraj Gupta, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Vijay Kumar Bidhuri, Divisional Commissioner Jammu, and other senior civil administration officials joining virtually.
