PARIS, Feb 11: The AI Action Summit currently underway in Paris highlights the expanding strategic partnership between India and France, as noted by Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri on Tuesday.
The main session of this significant event was co-chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron.
During a briefing regarding the Prime Minister’s visit to France, Misri provided insights into his extensive engagements and the anticipated outcomes from the summit.
“The (AI Action) Summit further enhances the already strong India-France strategic partnership,” the Foreign Secretary remarked.
He emphasized that given the history of cooperation in various domains—such as space, defense, nuclear technology, and critical technologies—it is logical for both nations to collaborate in artificial intelligence as well.
In his remarks at the summit, Modi advocated for collective initiatives to create a global framework for AI that is based on open-source principles, which fosters trust, transparency, and eliminates biases.
Modi noted that AI is transforming politics, economics, security, and society, effectively “writing the code for humanity in this century.”
“We are at the threshold of the AI era that will influence the future of humanity,” he stated.
“While some may fear that machines could surpass human intelligence, we must remember that our collective future and mutual destiny lie in our hands alone. This sense of responsibility should guide us,” he added.
During his three-day visit to France, which began on Monday, Modi is also scheduled to engage in bilateral discussions with President Macron and meet with business leaders.
Last year, India and France marked 25 years of their strategic partnership, addressing a wide range of issues from defense and security to civil nuclear cooperation, space, trade, economy, and commerce.
On the sidelines of the AI Action Summit in Paris, Modi held a bilateral meeting with Estonia’s President Alar Karis. Misri noted that this was their first meeting, and both leaders expressed satisfaction with the increasing cooperation between India and Estonia across various sectors. (PTI)
