NEW DELHI, Feb 4: Akhilesh Yadav, the National President of the Samajwadi Party and MP from Kannauj, criticized the Central government on Tuesday regarding the stampede that occurred during the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj. He called for an all-party meeting to investigate the “root cause” of this tragic event.
While taking part in the discussion on the Motion of Thanks to the President’s address in the Lok Sabha, Yadav stated, “As the government continuously shares budget figures, it must also disclose the number of lives lost during the Maha Kumbh.
I insist that an all-party meeting be convened to clarify the arrangements made for the Maha Kumbh.”
The Uttar Pradesh government reported that the stampede, which happened during the Mauni Amavasya on January 29, resulted in the deaths of 30 people and left 60 others injured.
Yadav further demanded stringent action against those responsible for the stampede.
He emphasized that Parliament should see an account of the number of fatalities resulting from the Maha Kumbh incident, details about the treatment of the injured, and the availability of essential resources such as medicines, doctors, food, water, and transportation.
He asserted that there must be strict punitive measures taken against those accountable for the Maha Kumbh disaster, and anyone who has concealed the truth should face consequences.
Yadav suggested that the Army should handle the responsibility of disaster management for the Maha Kumbh and set up an AI-based lost-and-found service.
He questioned why preventive measures were not implemented to avert such incidents when the government planned for over 100 crore attendees at the Maha Kumbh festival.
Regarding the President’s address, Akhilesh remarked, “There was nothing new in her address. She did not address any significant issues during her speech.”
Prior to this, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi filed an adjournment notice in the Lok Sabha concerning the Maha Kumbh stampede.
“I rise to address the heartbreaking incident that transpired during the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj, where a dreadful stampede led to the loss of numerous lives and left many injured,” Gogoi expressed. (UNI)
