NEW DELHI, Dec 14: Mukesh Ambani, Asia’s wealthiest individual, has revealed the appointment of Ira Bindra as the new Group President overseeing people, leadership, and talent at Reliance Industries Ltd. This move marks a significant shift in the company’s approach to human resources and personnel management within the oil-to-telecom giant.
Traditionally, such announcements are made by functional heads responsible for senior talent recruitment; however, Bindra is the first in recent history to have her appointment directly announced by Ambani, the chairman and managing director of Reliance.
She has been recruited to spearhead transformation initiatives throughout the entire organization.
With her arrival, Reliance is expected to undergo unprecedented HR transformation.
“Bindra joins us from Medtronic, USA, where she served as the Head of Human Resources & Vice President – Global Regions,” Ambani mentioned in an internal announcement.
At 47 years old, she becomes the first non-family woman and the youngest member to join the influential Executive Committee of the group. As Group President – People and Talent at Reliance, she “will collaborate with me, Isha, Akash, Anant, and the entire EC to drive transformation in our company regarding People, Culture, and Leadership,” Ambani stated in the announcement.
“She will closely partner with our business and HR leaders to further our established foundation and cultivate world-class HR and people development practices.”
A graduate of Lady Shri Ram College in Delhi (Class of 1998), Bindra earned her Master of Business Administration from Maastricht School of Management in the Netherlands in 1999. Her career has included roles at GE Capital, GE India, GE Healthcare, and GE Oil & Gas before she joined Medtronic in May 2018.
“Bindra is a global HR and business leader with extensive domain expertise across various industries and regions. She possesses deep business and HR knowledge across sectors such as med tech, financial services, industrial, and global delivery center businesses,” Ambani added.
Her leadership experience spans complex global markets, including India, the United States, Asia, Europe, and Latin America.
“Bindra has led substantial HR teams in Fortune 100 companies, such as GE, guiding organizations through significant business transformations – from developing new operating models and creating new business lines to executing major divestitures, thus enhancing performance and outcomes,” he stated.
With a diverse range of leadership positions encompassing HR business partnership, talent development, technology R&D, commercial, compliance, and business transformation, she leverages her expertise in integrating business, data, and people strategies to produce impactful results, he concluded.
“I am confident that Bindra will energize our diverse teams with innovative perspectives and drive us toward even greater performance levels.”
In a LinkedIn update, Bindra expressed her enthusiasm for starting this new chapter in her career at Reliance as Group President – People and Talent.
“In this capacity, I will collaborate with the Chairman, Mr. Mukesh D Ambani, and the Directors – Ms. Isha Ambani Piramal, Mr. Akash M Ambani, Mr. Anant M Ambani, along with the Executive Committee to foster transformation within our organization regarding People, Culture, and Leadership..
“I am excited about this new opportunity, which promises fresh insights and the chance to apply my previous experiences to advance Reliance’s next phase of growth and transformation, in partnership with its leaders and teams,” she articulated.
Isha, Akash, and Anant are Mukesh Ambani’s children.

Currently ranked 86th on the Forbes Global 500 list, Reliance is India’s largest private sector enterprise, boasting a consolidated revenue of USD 119.9 billion, cash profit of USD 17 billion, and net profit of USD 9.5 billion for the year ending March 31, 2024.
