JAMMU, Feb 15: Amit Sharma, Secretary to the Government for ICT and Cooperation in Mizoram, underscored the importance of the Cooperation department as a foundational driver for various allied sectors such as Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry, and Fisheries.
Speaking at a State Credit Seminar chaired by Chief Minister Lalduhoma, Sharma highlighted the significant contributions of the Cooperative Sector in Mizoram. He noted that the United Nations is designating 2025 as the International Year of Cooperatives, and it is vital to implement this initiative earnestly. To that end, awareness and sensitization programs will be launched in all districts of Mizoram, spearheaded by the Secretary of Cooperation and teams from the RCS Office, forming part of the annual events calendar for the International Year of Cooperatives.
He mentioned that cooperative membership in Mizoram is currently at a mere 4 percent, in stark contrast to Kerala’s 77 percent and Karnataka’s 50 percent, with plans to increase participation in the coming months.
Additionally, Sharma revealed that under the PACS computerization scheme, 25 PACS in Mizoram have been selected for initial computerization, with all achieving Go-Live status, earning appreciation from the Cooperation Ministry.
During the event, NABARD presented the State Focus Paper for Mizoram 2025-26, attended by the Chief Minister and other distinguished guests. Pankaja Borah, General Manager (OIC) of NABARD’s Mizoram Regional Office, discussed the importance of this paper in the state’s development planning.
