New Delhi, Feb 4: Union Home Minister Amit Shah convened a meeting on Tuesday to assess the security landscape in Jammu and Kashmir, which has recently experienced several terror incidents, according to sources.
Senior officials from the Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and various intelligence agencies provided Shah with updates on the current state of affairs in the Union territory, along with ongoing anti-terror operations.
This discussion took place a day after a terrorist attack in Kulgam district of south Kashmir, resulting in the death of ex-serviceman Manzoor Ahmad Wagay, with his wife and niece sustaining injuries.
Attendees of the meeting included Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, DGP Nalin Prabhat, Army chief General Upendra Dwivedi, and other senior military, police, and civil officials.
Shah is also expected to hold a follow-up security review meeting with top paramilitary officers on Wednesday.
In the previous review on December 19, 2024, Shah instructed all security agencies to maintain a coordinated effort in their fight to eradicate terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.
The government has stated that there has been a notable decrease in terrorist acts, infiltration rates, and the recruitment of youth into terrorist groups.
Last week, security forces initiated a significant operation across Jammu and Kashmir, particularly in elevated areas and forests along the Line of Control, aiming to locate and neutralize the terrorists responsible for various attacks in the past year.
Regions including Reasi, Doda, Kishtwar, Kathua, Jammu, and Rajouri have experienced heightened terror activities in recent years.
