Chandigarh, Jan 28: Punjab Police announced on Tuesday that they have apprehended two individuals allegedly linked to the grenade throwing incident that occurred outside the Gumtala police post in Amritsar.

According to the police, Bagga Singh and Puskaran Singh are associates of the US-based terrorist Happy Passia.

A hand grenade and two handguns were seized from them during the operation.

“In a meticulously planned intelligence operation, the State Special Operation Cell (#SSOC) Amritsar dismantled a narco-terror module and arrested two operatives, Bagga Singh from Sirsa and Puskaran Singh, also known as Sagar, from Amritsar Rural, who are affiliated with #USA-based terrorist Happy Passia and smuggler Sarwan Bhola,” stated Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav in a post on X.

“These individuals were implicated in the grenade attack at the Gumtala Police Post in Amritsar on January 9, 2025,” he added.

“Initial investigations suggest that the arrested Bagga Singh is related to Sarwan Bhola, who was apprehended in Sirsa, Haryana. Sarwan is the sibling of smuggler Ranjit Singh, also known as Cheeta, who is currently incarcerated in Bathinda in connection with a 532 Kg heroin case,” the DGP explained.

On January 9, a loud explosion was reported near the Gumtala police post in Amritsar district.

At that time, police officials denied any explosion, asserting that the noise was merely the result of a car radiator bursting. (AGENCIES)
