New Delhi, Jan 13: On Monday, Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi revealed that 60 percent of the terrorists killed in Jammu and Kashmir were Pakistani nationals. During a media briefing addressing security concerns along the northern borders, he indicated that while the situation remains “sensitive,” it is stable.
“Let’s start with the security issues in the northern borders. As you may know, the situation is sensitive but stable,” Dwivedi stated at the press conference. He highlighted that amidst efforts to combat terrorism, 80 percent of the terrorists currently active in J&K are also from Pakistan.
“Of the terrorists killed in Jammu and Kashmir, 60 percent are Pakistani. Furthermore, 80 percent of those operating in the state are from Pakistan, as we transition from terrorism to promoting tourism,” Dwivedi noted.
Regarding the Depsang and Demchok regions in eastern Ladakh, the Army chief mentioned that issues have been resolved. He stated that all co-commanders are empowered to address matters related to patrolling and grazing directly at the ground level.
“As of October, the situation in Depsang and Demchok has been settled. Patrols in traditional areas of these two sectors have resumed, along with traditional grazing activities. I’ve given my co-commanders the authority to resolve these minor issues on-site to facilitate smooth operations. Our deployment along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) is both balanced and robust, ensuring we are prepared to handle any situation. We are focusing on capability development for the northern borders, incorporating advanced technology into our defense systems,” Dwivedi emphasized.
He also discussed the synergy between mass media and security forces in contributing to nation-building and national security.
“I firmly believe in the potential collaboration between mass media and security forces in bolstering national security and development. Let me communicate my core mission clearly—to ensure comprehensive preparedness while transforming the Indian Army into a self-reliant, future-ready force, serving as a crucial component of the national security infrastructure, and contributing actively to nation-building,” Dwivedi added.
He concluded by addressing the ongoing incidents of violence in Manipur, affirming that security forces are diligently working to restore peace.
“In Manipur, there continues to be cyclic violence, but security forces are actively working towards peace. We are enhancing surveillance and establishing dominance along the Myanmar border, with fencing activities also underway,” Dwivedi remarked. (Agencies)
