Jammu, Feb 20: An army soldier sustained injuries due to a landmine explosion near the Line of Control in the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, according to officials.
Rifleman Mohd Asif Rather was part of a patrol unit when he inadvertently stepped on a landmine in a forward area of the Balakote sector in the Mendhar sub-division around 5 pm, they reported.
The soldier, who injured his left foot, was promptly transported to a military hospital, the officials noted.
These forward areas are part of an anti-infiltration obstacle system and are often lined with landmines that can be displaced by rainfall, leading to such accidents, they explained.
