JAMMU, Jan 28: On Tuesday, the Indian Army commemorated the notable victory of its Chenab Brigade from the 1971 war against Pakistan by unveiling a monolith near the Pargwal border along the Line of Control, as reported by a defense spokesman.
The Chenab Brigade, under the authority of the Jammu-based Tiger Division, established this monument to honor the courage and sacrifice shown by Indian soldiers during the Battle of Phuklian (Chenab enclave) in Jammu and Kashmir, according to the spokesman.
The purpose of the monolith is to educate local residents, particularly the youth, about the remarkable victory of the Indian Army and the valor of its troops.
The unveiling ceremony included the Chenab Brigade commander, ex-servicemen, officials from the Border Security Force (BSF), police, representatives from civil administration, as well as students from the border village of Pargwal.
During the event, the Chenab Brigade commander interacted with local civilians and veterans, encouraging them to enhance military-civil relations in addressing potential future challenges and threats.
The monolith, named the ‘Pargwal Parakram Pillar’, will stand as a lasting tribute to the selfless sacrifices of soldiers, embodying the spirit of nationalism and aiming to inspire future generations to honor their glorious past.
