PESHAWAR, Jan 1: At least three individuals, including a child, have lost their lives and 11 others sustained injuries across three distinct terrorist incidents in Pakistan’s volatile northwest on Wednesday.
A police constable and a laborer were killed, and two more were injured when unidentified militants targeted a police check post in the Daraban area of Dera Ismail Khan district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa at 1 am this morning, according to police reports.
In another incident, a child was killed and four others were hurt when a bomb hidden in a motorcycle detonated in the Azam Warsak region of South Waziristan district, as stated by the police.
Additionally, at least five policemen suffered injuries due to an explosion triggered by a roadside bomb in the Mamaskhel area of Bannu district.
The day before, two policemen were killed, and another was injured in an assault by unidentified attackers in Daraban Kalan, located in Dera Ismail Khan district, which borders South Waziristan.
An official report issued on Monday revealed that security forces in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa eliminated 270 terrorists in 2024, which included high-profile militants with bounties placed on their heads.
The report also pointed out the significant toll on security forces, with 149 police officers killed and 232 injured while performing their duties last year. (PTI)
