Sydney, Jan 1: On Wednesday, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese engaged with the Indian and Australian cricket teams before the crucial fifth Test and praised pacer Jasprit Bumrah for his remarkable performances in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Australia currently leads the series 2-1, and the result of the Sydney Test will dictate whether they reclaim the trophy after over a decade.
“Both the Australian and Indian teams have already given us an extraordinary summer of cricket,” Albanese noted while sharing photos with the teams.
“As the fifth Test kicks off on Friday, the SCG will transform into a sea of pink in support of the McGrath Foundation’s incredible work. Go Australia!,” he added in another post.
Local media reported that Albanese acknowledged Bumrah’s stellar performance throughout the series, where the Indian bowler has claimed 30 wickets thus far and became the fastest Indian pacer to reach 200 wickets, achieving the milestone in just 44 matches.
“We could enact a law here mandating he bowls left-handed or off just one step. Every time he takes to the field as a bowler, it’s exciting,” Albanese remarked while interacting with the players, specifically referencing Bumrah. (PTI)
