DHAKA, Dec 31: On Tuesday, Muhammad Yunus, the Chief Adviser of Bangladesh’s interim government, visited the Indian High Commission in Dhaka to pay his respects to the late former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
According to a statement from the chief adviser’s press office, “Professor Yunus laid a floral wreath at the portrait of the late Indian Prime Minister and also signed the condolence book at the High Commission.”
The chief adviser was welcomed by Indian High Commissioner Pranay Kumar Verma upon his arrival.
Yunus shared a few moments with the envoy, reminiscing about his long-standing friendship with Singh, whom he described as a fellow economist.
“He was incredibly humble and wise!” Yunus recalled fondly of his friendship with the late Indian leader.
The chief adviser acknowledged Singh’s significant contributions to transforming India into a global economic powerhouse.
Singh, originally from Gah village in Chakwal district of undivided India (now part of Pakistan), served as Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014 and passed away last Thursday in New Delhi at the age of 92.
In his memory, India is observing a seven-day mourning period. (PTI)
