DHAKA, Jan 15: A shipment of 2,450 tons of rice imported from India has reached Bangladesh through Darshana Land Port in Chuadanga.
The rice was delivered via rail, arriving at the Darshana port yard around 9 PM on Tuesday, transported in 42 wagons from Gede Port in India, as reported by the Daily Star on Wednesday.
Atiar Rahman Habu, the general secretary of the C&F Agents Association at Darshana Port, stated that the rice was imported by M/S Majumdar Agrotech International Limited, based in Dhaka’s Purana Paltan.
The invoice for each ton of rice is priced at $490.
This shipment was exported by Saubhik Export Limited, located in Kolkata.
As per reports, Mirza Kamrul Haque, manager of the Darshana International Railway Station, mentioned that after completing customs inspection and clearance, the rice will be scheduled for delivery to Ishwardi and Sirajganj.
From those locations, it will be transported by truck to the importer.
Bangladesh plans to import a total of 159,000 tons of rice from India, and this marks the first shipment arriving via Darshana Port, the report concluded.
