BAREILLY (UP), Dec 24: A local court has summoned AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi to appear before it following a petition alleging that he violated the Constitution by endorsing Palestine during a session of Parliament.
Lawyer Virendra Gupta filed the complaint against Owaisi because the five-time MP expressed support for Palestine during his oath-taking ceremony. Gupta contends that Owaisi’s actions breached constitutional and legal standards.
On Tuesday, Gupta reported that an initial petition lodged with the MP/MLA court on July 12 was dismissed.
Subsequently, Gupta filed a revision petition in the district judge’s court. District Judge Sudhir accepted the petition and issued a notice to Owaisi on Saturday, instructing him to attend court on January 7.
Gupta expressed that he felt aggrieved by Owaisi’s statements, claiming they contradicted the Constitution.
Owaisi took the oath of office as Hyderabad’s MP on June 25, and shortly after, he made remarks supporting the troubled West Asian nation from the podium, prompting the chairman to request that those comments be removed from the record.
After leaving the parliamentary session, Owaisi defended his statements, asserting there was no issue with his declaration of “Jai Bheem, Jai Meem, Jai Telangana, Jai Palestine.” (PTI)
