New Delhi, Feb 7: The BCCI has scheduled a Special General Meeting (SGM) on March 1 in Mumbai to appoint a new joint secretary. This vacancy arose after Devjit Saikia was promoted to the role of board secretary.
Saikia, representing the Assam Cricket Association (ACA), took over from Jay Shah last month, following Shah’s appointment as the chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC) on December 1.
The BCCI has circulated the SGM notice to state associations with a single agenda item.
“Notice is hereby given for the Special General Meeting (SGM) of the BCCI, which will take place at 12:00 PM IST on March 1, 2025, at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai, to conduct the Election and Induction of the Joint Secretary of BCCI,” the board stated in a release.
Candidates being considered for the position include Avishek Dalmiya, former president of the Cricket Association of Bengal (East Zone), Rohan Jaitley, president of the Delhi & District Cricket Association (North Zone), and Sanjay Naik from the Mumbai Cricket Association (West Zone).
Similar to the previous selections for the secretary and treasurer positions, there will be no election to fill the joint secretary role.
The BCCI adhered to the required 21-day notice period for convening the SGM.
This will be the second SGM held in under two months, following the January 12 meeting, during which Saikia and Prabhtej Singh Bhatia were elected unopposed as secretary and treasurer, respectively.
The joint secretary is responsible for various administrative duties and collaborates with other board members to ensure efficient operations. (PTI)
