MUMBAI, Jan 10: The newly appointed chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC), Jay Shah, will be honored by the BCCI’s state units during the upcoming Special General Meeting slated for Sunday.
Shah, who previously served as the BCCI secretary, became the youngest ICC chairman after being elected unopposed in August of the previous year and officially assumed the role on December 1. He succeeded Greg Barclay, who opted not to pursue a third term.
Shah held the position of BCCI secretary since October 2019 and has been the chairman of the Asian Cricket Council since January 2021.
He will attend the SGM as a “special invitee,” which has been convened to elect the new secretary and treasurer of the BCCI.
Shah has actively promoted the global growth of cricket and recently engaged with senior officials from the organizing committee of the 2032 Brisbane Olympics to discuss the potential inclusion of the sport in the Summer Games.
Cricket is set to return to the Olympics after a 128-year absence during the 2028 Los Angeles Games, but its participation in the 2032 Brisbane edition is yet to be confirmed.
In addition, Australian newspaper The Age recently reported that Shah is expected to meet Cricket Australia chair Mike Baird and his counterpart from England, Richard Thompson, later this month to delve into the details of a two-tier Test system aimed at facilitating more series between the leading cricketing nations.
