JAMMU, Feb 1: The Jammu & Kashmir Wushu team made a remarkable achievement by securing second place in the Men’s Sanda event at the 38th National Games held in Uttarakhand, finishing just behind the Services team. Overall, the team bagged two gold, one silver, and four bronze medals, highlighting their success in the tournament.
Surya Bhanu Partap Singh and Mohd Kamraan stood out as the key performers, each winning Gold in their respective weight divisions. Surya Bhanu dominated the 60kg final against Manipur, while Mohd Kamraan excelled in the +90kg category, defeating the Services Sports Control Board. Ayeera Chisti earned a Silver medal following a tough final match against MP, demonstrating remarkable skill and resolve.
Additionally, Arjun Sharma, Rohan, Ishant Singh, and Saleem Kumar contributed to the team’s success by winning Bronze medals in their events. The coaching duo of Ajaz Hassan and Lalit Singh played a vital role in guiding the team throughout the competition.
Nuzhat Gul, the Secretary of the Sports Council, congratulated the medallists, particularly the Gold medalists, for their exceptional accomplishments. President Vijay Saraf, Vice President Ranjeet Kalra, and General Secretary Bhavneet also praised the team’s efforts, celebrating their victory and the pride it brought to the entire UT of J&K.
Dronacharya Awardee Kuldeep Handoo expressed optimism for the future, stating that J&K Wushu is poised to reach new heights in upcoming competitions, including the 20th Asian Games in 2026.
