Jammu, Feb 28: As the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly is set to convene for the budget session on March 3, the BJP initiated a two-day training workshop for its 28 legislators on Friday. Most of these legislators are first-time representatives, and the focus is on enhancing their active involvement in the proceedings.
The ‘Vidahayak Prashishan Shivir’ was jointly inaugurated by BJP national general secretary B L Santosh and Jammu and Kashmir BJP president Sat Sharma at a hotel in Katra town, located 45 kms from Jammu, according to a party leader.
The gathering included BJP national general secretary and the party’s J&K in-charge Tarun Chugh, MP Jugal Kishore, and MP (Rajya Sabha) Ghulam Ali Khatana, along with Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma and other party legislators. Among them, 19 are new members who are seeking guidance on managing debates, countering opposition challenges, and effectively presenting the party’s position, the leader noted.
On the concluding day, senior BJP leaders, including national president J P Nadda and Union Minister Jitendra Singh, are expected to participate in the workshop, which consists of a total of 10 sessions. They will help familiarize legislators with the intricacies of legislative procedures and strategies for raising public issues, as well as adopting a proactive approach both within and outside the assembly.
Earlier, on February 23, Union Minister Jitendra Singh hosted a luncheon meeting with BJP legislators to strategize for the upcoming budget session, the first to be held since the PDP-BJP government collapsed in the former state in 2018.
“It’s a tradition of the BJP to conduct such meetings with elected representatives to ensure that vital public issues are forcefully raised in the assembly,” Singh remarked during the meeting.
The BJP secured 29 assembly seats, all from the Jammu region, in last year’s assembly elections. However, one of their elected representatives, Devender Singh Rana, passed away in October, just two weeks after the formation of the National Conference-led government in the Union Territory. (Agencies)
