NEW DELHI, Dec 17: On Tuesday, the BJP signaled that it would be inquiring with several of its Lok Sabha MPs regarding their absence during the voting for the significant “One Nation One Election” Bill.
Sources within the BJP have confirmed that a number of Union Ministers and some MPs who were absent had legitimate pre-scheduled official commitments and had notified the party floor managers accordingly, as a three-line whip was issued in advance of the Bill’s introduction. Although the introduction of the Bill requires only a simple majority, its passage after being reviewed by a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) will necessitate the support of two-thirds of the members.
