NEW DELHI, Dec 19: On Thursday, the Congress party criticized the BJP for attempting to distract from Home Minister Amit Shah’s alleged “insult” to BR Ambedkar, insisting that Shah ought to resign and apologize for his statements.
The opposition also claimed that the BJP is “anti-Constitution” and “anti-Ambedkar”.
In a joint press conference at the AICC headquarters, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and former party chief Rahul Gandhi condemned Shah’s remarks about Ambedkar and stated that protests would continue nationwide, having already initiated a movement against this issue.
“The BJP aims to divert attention from Shah’s statements regarding Ambedkar, which is why they are bringing up other subjects,” Kharge remarked to journalists.
He stated that the Congress leaders were solely demanding Shah’s resignation and protesting “in support of our requests, but BJP MPs obstructed our entry into Parliament.”
“They pushed me, causing me to lose my balance and sit down,” the Congress chief lamented, reiterating his disapproval of Shah’s comments about Ambedkar.
Kharge announced plans for a nationwide campaign addressing the Ambedkar issue.
Gandhi expressed that the BJP-RSS ideology is “anti-Constitution” and “anti-Ambedkar”.
“The BJP is seeking to distract the public. We demand the apology and resignation of the Home Minister concerning his remarks on Ambedkar,” Gandhi asserted, adding that they would persist in voicing their demands, including the Adani controversy. (Agencies)
