Jammu, Jan 4: Authorities have taken a government employee into custody after he allegedly discharged his firearm at a youth leader of the BJP following a dispute over parking, officials reported on Saturday.
“The Bakshi Nagar police station received a report concerning a shooting incident in the New Plot area stemming from a parking disagreement. Advocate Kanav Sharma was attempting to park his vehicle on a street adjacent to the Power Development Department (PDD) lineman’s room when he was confronted by PDD worker Ravinder Singh, leading to a heated exchange on Friday,” stated a police spokesperson.
In the heat of the argument, a physical altercation ensued between the two. Subsequently, Ravinder Singh produced his licensed pistol and fired two shots at Advocate Kanav Sharma, according to the spokesperson.
Kanav was swiftly transported to Sarwal Hospital for initial treatment and was later referred to GMC for further care. Meanwhile, Ravinder Singh fled the vicinity, added the spokesperson.
Upon receiving details about the incident, police secured the crime scene and enlisted forensic science teams for investigation, the spokesperson indicated.
A concerted effort was launched to locate Ravinder Singh, who was ultimately apprehended. The firearm involved in the shooting was also recovered, as confirmed by officials.
Kanav Sharma is not only the president of the Bhartiya Janata Yuva Morcha in Jammu district but also the son of prominent BJP member Chander Mohan Sharma.
At the time of the incident, Singh, a government employee, was assigned to Parade in Jammu and was executing his duties in New Plot.
A case has been filed, and an extensive investigation is in progress, according to police reports. (Agencies)
