Jammu, December 1: On Sunday, BJP leaders from Jammu and Kashmir called for action against PDP president Mehbooba Mufti following her “anti-national” comments that likened the situation in Bangladesh to that of India. They supported the recent decision by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to terminate the services of two government employees cited for alleged terrorism affiliations, stating that such measures are essential to dismantle the terrorism infrastructure in the Union Territory.
“Mehbooba’s remarks comparing Bangladesh to India are completely unacceptable and should be condemned. The international community recognizes the severe human rights abuses in Bangladesh, where minority communities face targeted violence, women are insulted, and an elected prime minister has been compelled to flee. Statues of the nation’s founder have also been desecrated,” asserted former J-K BJP president Ravinder Raina during a party event.
Earlier in the day, while addressing party members in Jammu, Mufti urged citizens to push back against what she described as BJP’s attempts at polarizing society, questioning the differences between India and Bangladesh. “Our Hindu brothers are facing oppression in Bangladesh, and if we were to enact similar treatment towards minorities here in India, what does that signify? We have a great nation known globally for its secular values,” she remarked.
Leader of the Opposition, Sunil Sharma, characterized Mufti’s statements as an attempt to revive her party’s fortunes following its recent electoral defeats. “The PDP is on the verge of extinction. Mehbooba is making such provocative comments to rally support among Muslims, in a bid to restore her party’s influence, while misleading the public about the safety of Muslims in Jammu and Kashmir and across India,” he said, emphasizing that there is no valid comparison between the situations in Bangladesh and India.
In response to Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Umer Farooq’s appeal for the reinstatement of dismissed employees, Sharma praised the government’s initiative to eliminate connections to terrorism. “Mirwaiz’s ideology leans towards separatism. He has historically aligned himself with anti-national elements,” he remarked, advocating for continued measures to eradicate the terror ecosystem in the region.
