New Delhi, Dec 19: A fresh controversy erupted outside Parliament as both the Treasury and Opposition benches continued their protests. BJP MP Pratap Chandra Sarangi alleged that he was injured when Congress leader Rahul Gandhi allegedly pushed another MP, causing them to fall on him. Sarangi stated that while he was standing on the stairs, a fellow MP fell onto him, resulting in a head injury.
“Rahul Gandhi pushed a member of Parliament who fell on me, and then I fell down myself. I was near the stairs when this occurred,” Sarangi told reporters.
Emergency medical assistance was promptly provided to the BJP MP after the incident.
In response, Rahul Gandhi defended himself by claiming he was trying to enter Parliament when he faced aggression from protesting BJP MPs. He also alleged that Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge was similarly pushed.
“You might see this on your cameras. I was attempting to enter through the Parliament entrance when BJP MPs were trying to block and threaten me. Yes, it happened that Mallikarjun Kharge was pushed as well. However, we do not let physical jostling intimidate us. This is the entrance, and we have the right to go in. BJP MPs were obstructing our entry,” Gandhi remarked to reporters.
He emphasized that the central issue at hand is the BJP’s alleged attack on the Constitution and the disrespect shown toward the legacy of Ambedkar.
This incident unfolded as ruling BJP MPs protested within the Parliament premises against the Congress party for supposedly disrespecting Babasaheb Ambedkar. They chanted, “Insult to Babasaheb Ambedkar ji will not be tolerated,” while holding banners that depicted, “Ambedkar showed us the path, Congress misled us.”
During the protests, Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh criticized the Gandhi family, noting that while they have received the Bharat Ratna, they did not bestow it upon Dr. Ambedkar.
“The Congress party is culpable for disrespecting Babasaheb. The entire family accepted the Bharat Ratna but failed to honor Babasaheb. The Congress party should dedicate 24 hours to fasting and reflect on their sins,” Singh asserted. (Agencies)
