NEW DELHI, Dec 19: On Thursday, the BJP intensified its critique of the Congress regarding its treatment of B R Ambedkar, as party president J P Nadda admonished the opposition to “cease the deception.”
Nadda reiterated allegations against Congress for disrespecting Ambedkar and neglecting his legacy, while highlighting efforts by the Modi administration to celebrate his contributions.
His posts on X emerged amidst ongoing criticism directed at Home Minister Amit Shah for purportedly belittling Ambedkar during his Rajya Sabha address.
He reminded the Congress and its “corrupt ecosystem” about their third consecutive loss in the Lok Sabha elections this past June, as well as poor performance in several assembly elections.
“In November, you faced a significant defeat in Maharashtra. At least now, stop lying, because your falsehoods will not go unnoticed. The truth will prevail. Jai Bhim,” he stated.
In response, Shah has accused Congress of misrepresenting his comments, garnering strong backing from the ruling party, including PM Modi.
Nadda asserted that the Congress and its flawed ecosystem have been exposed since Wednesday by all who value truth, democracy, and social justice.
He remarked, “Allow me to share some facts illustrating the Congress’s profound disdain for Dr. Ambedkar. Pandit Nehru harbored intense animosity towards Dr. Ambedkar. Indeed, it was unfiltered hatred. That is why Pandit Nehru ensured Dr. Ambedkar’s defeat twice.” He alleged that Nehru had boasted to individuals abroad about the absence of Ambedkar from the Cabinet.
Referring to the residence on Alipur Road in the capital where Ambedkar passed away, Nadda insisted it should have long ago been transformed into a magnificent memorial to inspire others.
However, he criticized the “Ambedkar-hating Congress” for failing to act, noting it was instead the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance government that elevated it to an “iconic place.”
He claimed that the Congress, despite calling themselves champions of social justice, made hollow promises regarding a grand memorial at “Chaitya Bhoomi” in Mumbai, the site of Ambedkar’s cremation, while it was the Modi government that assured the land transfer was completed in 2015.
Moreover, Nadda noted that Modi has visited the site twice in recent years.
He also shared a now-deleted post allegedly from Congress leader Sam Pitroda, where Pitroda rated Nehru’s contribution to the Constitution as greater than Ambedkar’s. Nadda commented, “The most loyal follower of the Dynasty has revealed the Congress’s true sentiments toward Dr. Ambedkar – that he played no role in the formation of our Constitution. Some screenshots indeed speak volumes.” Although the post may be erased, their genuine feelings remain unchanged, he asserted.
He stressed the Modi government’s development of the Ambedkar International Centre as a contrast to Congress’s alleged disregard.
Nadda stated, “Congress leaders enjoy spreading falsehoods about India internationally, but they have neglected the site in London where Dr. Ambedkar himself resided. During PM Modi’s 2015 visit to the UK, he visited that location, which was subsequently acquired by the Maharashtra Government.” Protests from opposition parties over Shah’s remarks have disrupted parliamentary proceedings since Wednesday.
