NEW DELHI, Jan 21: Former Union Minister and prominent BJP leader Anurag Thakur presented the second segment of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Sankalp Patra (manifesto) concerning the forthcoming Delhi Assembly Elections in 2025.
Thakur introduced a range of ambitious initiatives, such as providing free education to underprivileged students from kindergarten through postgraduate levels in government institutions. The manifesto also guarantees financial assistance for students aiming for competitive exams like the UPSC Civil Services and State PCS, with an offer of Rs 15,000 for up to two attempts.
As part of the Bhimrao Ambedkar Stipend Scheme, students from the Scheduled Caste community enrolled in technical courses at ITIs and polytechnic skill centers will receive a monthly stipend of Rs 1,000.
The BJP has also suggested establishing an Auto-Taxi Driver Welfare Board, which would offer life insurance coverage of Rs 10 lakh and accident insurance of Rs 5 lakh for drivers. A similar welfare board for domestic workers is also proposed, with equivalent insurance benefits.
The former Minister also declared that if the BJP is elected in the national capital, an SIT will be formed to probe the irregularities and scams of the AAP government.
Thakur criticized the AAP government for not successfully implementing the Jal Jeevan Mission in Delhi, reiterating the BJP’s dedication to enhancing infrastructure and welfare if they gain power.
On January 17, Union Minister and BJP national president JP Nadda introduced the initial part of the party’s manifesto, which included commitments to continue existing welfare programs alongside new promises such as a monthly pension of Rs 2,500 for senior citizens aged 60-70 and Rs 3,000 for those over 70.
For women, the party unveiled the Matru Suraksha Vandana scheme, which provides six nutrition kits and Rs 21,000 to each pregnant woman.
The BJP, which last governed Delhi 27 years ago, has faced challenges in recent assembly elections, winning only three and eight seats in 2015 and 2020, respectively.
The elections for the 70-member Delhi Assembly are scheduled for February 5, with results to be announced on February 8. (PTI)
