CHANDIGARH, January 30: Harpreet Kaur Babla from the BJP has been elected as the new mayor of the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation after a victory over AAP candidate Prem Lata on Thursday.
Babla garnered 19 votes, while Lata received 17 votes.
The presiding officer, Ramneek Singh Bedi, announced the results.
Voting for the mayoral position commenced at 11:20 AM in the assembly hall of the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation and concluded at 12:19 PM.
The election was a contest primarily between the BJP and the AAP-Congress alliance. (Agencies)
