JAMMU, Jan 26: The main venue for Republic Day in Jammu and Kashmir underwent an extensive search following a bomb threat just hours before the ceremony, as reported by officials on Sunday.
The threat, which came via email late Saturday, was ultimately deemed a hoax, according to sources.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha is set to hoist the national flag and review the march past at the M.A. Stadium, which is the site of the main Republic Day celebration in the Union Territory.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is also expected to be present as the chief guest.
Officials noted that the emergency email was sent by a user named “Dise Lish” to the official email addresses of various departments, including the secretary of higher education and the director of higher education, on Saturday night.
This prompted the deployment of multiple bomb disposal teams to the stadium, which was extensively searched throughout the night under the supervision of senior police officials, who confirmed that no suspicious items were found during the inspections.
They also mentioned that a special team has been formed to trace and apprehend those responsible for the threatening email.
