New Delhi/Noida, Feb 7: An esteemed college and two schools in the Delhi-NCR area were sent bomb threats via email on Friday, leading police to dispatch bomb disposal units and canine teams to search the sites, officials reported.
The emails were directed to St Stephen’s College, part of Delhi University, the Ahlcon International School in Mayur Vihar Phase-1, and the Shiv Nadar School in Noida.
After conducting thorough investigations of both locations, the Delhi Police deemed the threats to be hoaxes.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Noida) Ram Badan Singh also classified the bomb threat claimed to be sent to Shiv Nadar School as a false alarm.
In a statement, the Delhi Police mentioned, “At St Stephen’s College, the dog squad and college security thoroughly checked every building and all open areas. No suspicious activity was discovered. The college grounds have been cleared and handed back to the authorities.” The police similarly inspected the Ahlcon International School and found nothing unusual, according to their report.
Previously, a senior police officer noted that St Stephen’s College had received a bomb threat via email at 7:42 am.
“Our bomb and dog squads are conducting checks across the entire campus,” he had stated.
An officer from the East Delhi district indicated that the administration of Ahlcon International School notified the police around 6:40 am regarding a bomb threat emailed to them.
Teams were actively searching the location, he confirmed.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Noida) Singh added that the police had received alerts from Shiv Nadar School regarding a bomb threat. Canine units, bomb disposal teams, fire brigade, and police personnel arrived on site and completed inspections, finding no explosives.
“It was a fraudulent email, possibly sent by a student,” he remarked.
In a communication to parents and guardians, Principal Anju Soni announced that the school would close on Friday for a safety sweep.
“This is to inform you that we have received a security threat concerning the students on campus. Therefore, we are closing the school for the day to carry out a thorough safety inspection,” she stated. (Agencies)
