Melbourne, Jan 19: Seasoned Indian tennis player Rohan Bopanna and his partner from China, Zhang Shuai, have advanced to the quarterfinals of the mixed doubles competition at the Australian Open after receiving a walkover in their second-round match on Sunday.
The duo was set to compete against the fourth-seeded pair of Taylor Townsend from the United States and Hugo Nys from Monaco, but they progressed to the last eight without stepping onto the court.
Next, Bopanna and Shuai will face the victors of the match between Hungary’s Timea Babos and El Salvador’s Marcelo Arevalo, and the Australian tandem of Olivia Gadecki and John Peers.
In their opening match, the Indo-Chinese pair triumphed over Kristina Mladenovic from France and Ivan Dodic from Croatia with a score of 6-4, 6-4. (Agencies)
