DUBAI, January 8:
India’s ace fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has retained his position at the top of the ICC Test Rankings for bowlers, achieving a career-high rating of 908, as released on Wednesday, January 8, 2025. Bumrah made headlines prior to the fifth and final Test against Australia by setting a record for the highest-ever ICC ranking rating by an Indian bowler at 907 points. He further improved his score to 908 after taking two wickets in the first innings at the SCG. However, a back spasm prevented him from bowling in the second innings, limiting him to batting duties.
Fellow Indian player Ravindra Jadeja has also made strides, moving up to joint-ninth place in the rankings. He shares this spot with Australia’s Scott Boland, who made a remarkable 29-place jump into the top 10 following a standout performance in the Sydney Test with a total of 10 wickets (4/31 and 6/45). Boland’s efforts were crucial in aiding Australia’s victory, enabling them to reclaim the Border-Gavaskar Trophy after a decade.
Australia’s captain Pat Cummins has climbed to second place in the rankings after taking five wickets in the final match. South Africa’s Kagiso Rabada has moved up to third, while the injured Josh Hazlewood has dropped to fourth.
Rishabh Pant’s explosive knock of 61 runs off just 33 balls in the second innings has helped him rise three spots to ninth place in the batting rankings, while Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal remains in fourth place. South Africa’s captain, Temba Bavuma, has also been in great form, scoring a key century in the first innings to move up three spots to sixth, achieving a career-best rating of 769. Kyle Verreynne’s impressive century has earned him a four-place rise, placing him at number 25. (Agencies)
