New Delhi, Jan 2: The CBI has filed a case against one of its deputy superintendents of police (DSPs) assigned to the Bank Security and Frauds division in Mumbai for allegedly taking “undue advantage” from individuals he was investigating, officials reported on Thursday.
The FIR against DSP BM Meena claims he was using intermediaries to facilitate bribe transactions through a network of accounts and hawala channels.
Meena is accused of receiving illicit benefits from various people involved in investigations under his purview.
The CBI upholds a strict zero-tolerance stance on corruption and promptly addresses wrongdoing among its officers, as emphasized by Director Praveen Sood, who insists that internal vigilance is essential for external action.
The agency has previously discharged three officers without inquiry under Article 311 of the Constitution, while five others faced compulsory retirement under the Fundamental Rule (FR) 56(J) of the Department of Personnel and Training service regulations.
In the case concerning Meena, the CBI undertook searches at 20 locations in Jaipur, Kolkata, Mumbai, and New Delhi, leading to the seizure of Rs 55 lakh allegedly funneled through hawala operations, according to a spokesperson.
The investigation also uncovered property documents indicating an investment of Rs 1.78 crore and records reflecting transactions amounting to Rs 1.63 crore, along with other incriminating materials.
Recently, the government annulled the Union Home Minister’s medal for Excellence in Investigation awarded to CBI Inspector Rahul Raj in 2023 based on the CBI’s recommendation. Raj was apprehended earlier this year for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 10 lakh and subsequently dismissed from service, officials confirmed. (Agencies)
