NEW DELHI, Feb 8: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a senior auditor from the office of the Principal Controller of Defence Accounts, along with two others, including a defence supplier, for allegedly soliciting a bribe from a businessman, officials reported on Saturday.
Deep Narayan Yadav, stationed at the Defence Offices Complex on Africa Avenue, is accused of demanding a bribe of Rs 10 lakh from the businessman to clear pending bills, threatening to impede future bill payments if the bribe was not provided, the officials stated.
During discussions, Yadav reportedly agreed to accept an initial payment of Rs 8 lakh from the businessman.
He allegedly instructed the businessman to transfer the payment to defence supplier Akash Kapoor, the owner of Akash Polytechnic Pvt. Ltd., the officials added.
After receiving the complaint, the businessman approached the CBI, which subsequently conducted a raid, resulting in the arrest of Kapoor’s employee, Dinesh, while he was allegedly in the process of accepting the bribe.
“The owner of the private defence supplier was also later apprehended,” stated a spokesperson for the CBI.
“Through the investigation, it was discovered that the accused public servant was a Senior Auditor at the Office of the Principal Controller of Defence Accounts in the Ministry of Defence, located in New Delhi. He has also been detained,” the spokesperson confirmed. (Agencies)
