New Delhi, Feb 26: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has eased its rules regarding school affiliations, permitting institutions to establish branch schools using the same name and affiliation number, as stated by officials.
However, it is mandatory for each school to maintain its own set of resources, encompassing both physical and academic infrastructure. The integration of branch schools into the main school will be smooth, and such transitions will not be classified as new admissions per the established regulations.
While the main institution may offer classes from grades 6 to 12, branch schools can operate classes from pre-primary up to grade 5.
“The management and ownership of all branches must remain consistent, and both schools will follow unified administrative and academic protocols. A shared website will be created for both branches, featuring a specific section for the branch school,” remarked CBSE Secretary Himanshu Gupta.
“Admissions for both branches will be overseen by the main school, which will also manage the financial accounts for both institutions. Students transitioning from the branch school to the main school will be regarded as promoted to Class 6 through natural progression, not as new admissions,” he elaborated.
While each school will need to have its own teaching and non-teaching staff, salaries will be processed solely by the main school, he noted.
Currently, the CBSE prohibits the establishment of branch schools, requiring each school within the same group to possess a distinct affiliation number.
“The board will liaise with the principal of the main school to address all matters, but this communication is not restricted to those issues,” Gupta added.
Both branches must adhere to standards for minimum physical infrastructure requirements, student safety, as well as teacher to pupil ratios, he stated. (Agencies)
