Kargil, Feb 26: Due to severe weather conditions, the Chief Executive Councillor (CEC) of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Kargil has announced an extension of winter vacations for all government and private schools until March 15.
Previously, on December 4, 2024, the Chief Education Officer (CEO) Kargil had implemented a phased winter break schedule for schools in the district. Classes from 1st to 8th were slated for vacation from December 5, 2024, to March 5, 2025, while classes 9th to 12th were scheduled to be on break from December 15, 2024, to March 5, 2025.
Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, the Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor of LAHDC Kargil, presided over a meeting at the Council Secretariat to assess the ongoing winter conditions and their effects on educational institutions.
Officials stated, “In response to the heavy snowfall and frigid temperatures, the CEC has confirmed the extension of winter vacations for all government and private schools until March 15, 2025.”
The meeting saw participation from Executive Councillor Kacho Mohd Feroz, Executive Councillor Aga Syed Mujtaba, Deputy Commissioner Kargil Shrikant Suse, and the Chief Education Officer of Kargil.
“This decision was taken to ensure the safety and welfare of students and staff amid the region’s extreme weather challenges,” the officials noted. (KNO)
