NEW DELHI, Feb 19: A committee chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah has sanctioned an additional Rs 1554.99 crore in central assistance from the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) to five states impacted by floods, flash floods, landslides, and cyclonic storms throughout 2024.
Of the total Rs 1554.99 crore allocated, Andhra Pradesh is set to receive Rs 608.08 crore, Nagaland Rs 170.99 crore, Odisha Rs 255.24 crore, Telangana Rs 231.75 crore, and Tripura Rs 288.93 crore, as stated in an official announcement.
In a message on X, Shah remarked, “The Modi government remains steadfast in its support for those affected by disasters. Today, the MHA approved additional central assistance of Rs 1554.99 crore to Andhra Pradesh, Nagaland, Odisha, Telangana, and Tripura through the NDR fund. This is in addition to the Rs. 18,322.80 crore previously allocated by the Centre to 27 states via the SDR fund.”
The high-level committee authorized central assistance of Rs 1554.99 crore to the five states from the NDRF, contingent upon adjusting 50 percent of the opening balance available in the SDRF for the year.
This extra assistance is supplementary to the resources already allocated by the Centre to the states through the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF).
For the fiscal year 2024-25, the Centre has disbursed Rs 18,322.80 crore to 27 states from the SDRF and Rs 4,808.30 crore from the NDRF to 18 states. Additionally, Rs 2208.55 crore has been provided from the State Disaster Mitigation Fund (SDMF) to 14 states and Rs 719.72 crore from the National Disaster Mitigation Fund (NDMF) to eight states.
The Centre deployed Inter-Ministerial Central Teams (IMCTs) to these states immediately after the disasters occurred, without awaiting formal memorandums, according to the statement. (PTI)
