BENGALURU, Jan 18: Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan announced on Saturday that the Central Government has approved an additional 468,000 houses for economically disadvantaged individuals in Karnataka. This is in addition to the 257,000 houses initially sanctioned by the Centre. Chauhan, who oversees the rural development, agriculture, and farmers’ welfare departments, made this statement to reporters.
The Minister mentioned that he met with the Karnataka ministers for rural development, revenue, and agriculture earlier that day. After Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s swearing-in for a third term, 257,000 houses were sanctioned in September, reinforcing the commitment to provide a ‘Pucca’ house for every underprivileged family in the state.
“We have now decided to raise the target, totaling an approval of 468,000 additional houses. For the BJP, serving the poor is akin to worshiping God,” Chauhan said.
He urged the Karnataka government to expedite the housing project. The Border Area Development Scheme will allocate ₹97 crore for Karnataka, with the Centre also agreeing to provide further grants for agricultural mechanization initiatives. Additionally, extra personnel have been approved under the Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA) scheme.
Chauhan stated, “I call upon the state government to utilize these funds promptly and provide us with the Utilization Certificate.” When asked about Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s accusations regarding the unequal distribution of funds by the Centre, he responded, “I have brought funds to Karnataka. Politics can be categorized into two types: the blame game and development-oriented politics. The BJP is committed to the latter.”
