SRINAGAR, Dec 30: Amitava Chatterjee officially took over as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of J&K Bank today, following his appointment last week. He succeeded Baldev Prakash, whose three-year term concluded today.
The transition ceremony took place at the Bank’s corporate headquarters, where Amitava Chatterjee, a veteran banker with over 30 years of experience at the State Bank of India (SBI), was warmly welcomed by Baldev Prakash and Bank’s Executive Director Sudhir Gupta, alongside other senior management officials.
Upon assuming his new role, Chatterjee conveyed his gratitude and enthusiasm, stating, “I am truly honored to lead J&K Bank, a distinguished institution with a legacy of trust and excellence. I eagerly anticipate collaborating with our talented team to build on the strong groundwork laid by my predecessor, Baldev Prakash, and to drive the Bank’s commitment to financial empowerment, sustainable growth, and innovation.” Notably, Chatterjee previously served as the Managing Director of SBI Caps, SBI’s wholly owned investment banking subsidiary.
In his farewell address, Baldev Prakash expressed confidence in Chatterjee’s leadership, saying, “It is a pleasure to pass the baton to Amitava Chatterjee, whose skills and experience align perfectly with the demands of this role. I am confident that his extensive knowledge and established track record in the banking sector will further strengthen our institution and lead it to new heights.”
The Bank also organized a farewell event for Baldev Prakash, who has been instrumental in transforming the organization since becoming its first MD & CEO in December 2021.
Both the management and staff expressed deep appreciation for Prakash’s significant contributions and wished him well in his future endeavors. They also expressed optimism regarding Chatterjee’s leadership to guide the Bank into its next growth phase.
With Chatterjee at the helm, the Bank is committed to delivering value to customers, investors, and communities across its operational areas, while reinforcing its crucial role in supporting the economic development of J&K and Ladakh.
