DODA, Dec 21: Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology, Earth Sciences, PMO, Department of Atomic Energy, Department of Space, and Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Dr. Jitendra Singh announced that the upcoming Chhatergala tunnel will revolutionize connectivity between Doda and Bhaderwah, linking them to Lakhanpur via Basohli-Bani. This tunnel is set to enhance all-weather access, promote tourism, and create job opportunities for local youth, reducing travel time between the two areas to just four to five hours. The entire project is projected to exceed Rs 17,000 crore, with the tunnel alone estimated at Rs 4,000 crore, as part of the ambitious ‘Viksit Bharat’ initiative.

He made these remarks during the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee Meeting (DISHA) today, which was centered on assessing the progress of various centrally sponsored schemes and critical infrastructure projects in the district.
Dr. Jitendra Singh emphasized that areas long neglected are now seeing significant development, with new highways enhancing connectivity in remote parts of Doda.
He urged for the prompt completion of key initiatives, including the Khellani tunnel and the Goha-Marmat Highway, to further improve connectivity in the Chenab Valley. He called on officials to expedite these projects, ensuring no funds are wasted. The Union Minister also highlighted the importance of community involvement in developmental projects, aligning with the principles of Jan Bhagidari for effective implementation.
Reiterating the government’s commitment to the region’s overall growth, he underscored the need for executing new benefit schemes such as Ayushman Bharat for citizens over 75 years old and the PM Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana for solar power installations. He encouraged officials to host skill development programs to provide employment opportunities for the youth and promote sports in the district.
Dr. Jitendra Singh suggested organizing another lavender festival next year to promote its cultivation and showcase Bhaderwah’s tourism potential, a location gaining acclaim as a major tourist attraction. He also proposed workshops to improve agricultural practices and foster innovation in the district.
During the meeting, Deputy Commissioner Harvinder Singh presented a detailed report on developmental initiatives, including the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), NABARD projects, and the PMGSY scheme. The meeting also tackled compensation challenges for road construction under PMGSY and discussed obstacles related to forest clearances for ongoing projects.
This meeting, held at the DC Office Complex, was attended by MLA Doda West, Shakti Raj Parihar, MLA Bhaderwah, Dalip Parihar, DDC Chairman Dhananter Singh Kotwal, Deputy Commissioner Harvinder Singh, SSP Sandeep Kumar Mehta, and senior officials from various departments.
